Nice shirt! But she'll run in a throw-away.
We met at the Falls Church Metro station at 6:30AM Sunday
(translate that back into alarm clock time ;-)
Jane's family also had "See Jane run" and "Run Jane, run" signs!
On the train - last chance for the runners to sit down for hours.
The Iwo Jima Memorial, silhouetted by the morning sun.
The white things in the distance are the portable toilets.
The line was 4 times this long just before the marathon started.
Mom pins on the number bib.
It's been a long time since she wore a bib!
Some Vaseline to protect the pinky toe.
The last time the entire group was together and moving at the same speed.
Also the last time they all smiled at the same time...
The Color Guard heads for the starting line.
The wheelchair racers come through the smoke from the starter's gun.
The Marine Corps used a trailer mounted cannon.
The pace van is out with the official time of 10 seconds showing
and the first crush of runners is right behind it.
And they're on both sides of the divided highway - some 13,000+ of them.
The juggler is a unique runner - and he was still going strong at the 6 mile mark.
No, this picture isn't as sharp as the others.
I'm running to catch up with Kerri so I can shoot from the other side.
That's better. She looks pretty good to be at mile 6 of 26!
I like Tim's shirt!
The Marines were very helpful, both to runners and spectators.
At the finish line, they had a tent where children could find lost parents ;-)
How does your runner spot you in a crowd of thousands?
Bright clothes and a helium balloon on a long string make it easier.
The weather was the best they've had for the Marathon in a number of years.
This is looking toward the Washington Monument from Memorial Bridge.
Mile 10 - still looking good!
Mile 15 - still looking good!
Coming up the hill to the finish line - just 200 yards more!
Mile 26 of 26 - still looking good!
Marathon = 26 miles
This one was 26 miles, 385 yards. That last 385 yards was ALL UPHILL!
This was THE place to make your runner's picture.
And you could include the memorial if you had a wide angle lens or stepped back far enough.
Our Kerri on the right, her running mate Keri on the left.
And they've been in the food and water provided by the Marines.
Kerri, Keri, and Linda
Jane, Kerri, and Keri with an AIDS Marathon sign.
Kerri ran the marathon for herself, but ran as an AIDS research fund raiser
because a co-worker had lost a young son to an AIDS infected blood transfusion.
